Reading Notes: Sita's Ramayana Part A

Reading Notes from Sita's Ramayana by Samhita Arni and Moyna Chitrakar.

For this first part of the book, there wasn't much from the story I already knew that caught my attention. However, a new character was introduced in this version of The Ramayana that I felt pulled to write a story about. That new character is a rakshasi named Trijatha. Trijatha was Ravana's niece, the daughter of Ravana's brother Vibhishana. In this version of The Ramayana, Trijatha has the gift of prophecy and told Sita that Rama would eventually come and rescue her from Ravana's palace.

I think it would be interesting to tell about Sita's captivity through the eyes of Trijatha. She showed kindness to Sita when the other rakshasas and rakshasis spent their days taunting and torturing Sita. Was this because she admired Sita's strength and devotion to Rama? Or did it go deeper, wishing to escape Ravana's kingdom just as much as Sita did?
